Images (2008) - 2 trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba
by Douglas M. Olenik - Item# OBQ-1
-
-Three movements (Andante-Moderato-Allegro, Andante, Vivace-Largo)
-
-Based on a composing technique I learned from Michael Colgrass, in fewer words; draw a picture depicting the music you want to happen, draw a staff over all of it, and “connect the dots”. I used this to create the first few bars, then the rest of the piece is just pulling, expanding, varying, etc.
Three Short Movements (2009) - 2 trumpets (one later switches to flugelhorn, optional), French horn, trombone, tuba
by Douglas M. Olenik - Item# OBQ-2
-
-Three movements (Adagio, Allegro, Largo)
-
-Some of the movements play with the Dies Irae.
-
-Third movement was thought to be like a good daydream (considered making that the title of the movement), just keeps going, each phrase meshing with one another. This creates a “never-ending” feeling.
-
-The Allegro movement was premiered at the 2009 Rafael Mendez Brass Institute by the Ralph Sauer Brass Quintet.
